Feel the sound!
Enhancing auditory perception through the power of touch—based on science
About ACETT
What is ACETT (Auditory Communication Encancement Through Touch)
It is an innovative assistive device that helps Deaf and Hard-Of-Hearing individuals feel sound through real-time vibrations on the hand. It converts speech and environmental audio into vibrations.
ACETT enables users to experience sound in a completely new and empowering way.
How It Works
Real-Time Sound Capture: ACETT’s built-in microphones pick up speech and surrounding sounds instantly.
Smart Translation to Touch: ACETT turns sounds into vibrations on the hand. Each voice creates a distinct feeling, helping users tell voices and tones apart—just like hearing does.
Feel the Sound: Vibrations are delivered through a soft, skin-contact interface on the hand, letting users feel what’s happening around them—naturally and intuitively.
Key Benefits
Feel Speech via Touch – Experience speech patterns and sound events clearly and uniquely through vibrations.
Discreet & Comfortable – Lightweight, skin-friendly design for everyday use.
Evidence-Based – Based on neuroscience and supported by clinical testing.
Personalized Training – Software to guide users in learning and adapting
Multi-Mode Functionality – Switch between Speech, Music, Nature, or City modes.
Tailored for Everyday Life: ACETT offers four intelligent sound modes designed for real-world environments:
🎤 Speech Mode: Translates phonemes and vocal dynamics into distinct tactile patterns.
🎵 Music Mode: Captures rhythm and beat for a rich musical experience through touch.
🌿 Nature Mode: Detects ambient sounds like birdsong, wind, and water—offering a calm, immersive sensory layer.
🚦 City Mode: Recognizes sirens, horns, crosswalk signals and approaching cars to improve safety and spatial awareness.
Users can switch manually or let ACETT adapt automatically to the environment.
Based on Science: ACETT’s technology is based on peer-reviewed studies showing that the brain meaningfully integrates touch and sound, especially in key frequency ranges:
Xydas et al. (2020) Audiotactile integration in the Pacinian corpuscle’s frequency range → When touch and sound occur together in the 200–300 Hz range, perception is enhanced—showing effective integration of tactile and auditory input. 🔗 PubMed
Wilson, Reed, Braida (2010) Integration of auditory and vibrotactile stimuli: effects of frequency → The brain integrates sound and vibration more efficiently at specific frequencies, confirming frequency-dependent audio-tactile fusion. 🔗 PubMed
Schürmann et al. (2006) Touch activates human auditory cortex → Neuroimaging showed that touch alone can activate the auditory cortex, revealing strong cross-modal connectivity between sensory systems. 🔗 PubMed
These findings form the scientific foundation for ACETT’s tactile-based design.
Created with the help of the Deaf Community
ACETT was co-developed with Deaf and hard-of-hearing beta testers, ensuring real-world comfort, usability, and meaningful impact.
Certified & Safe
Currently undergoing CE Marking and 'accessibility/wellness device' approval, ACETT meets rigorous European safety and performance standards.
